How can we strengthen our relationship with the Qur’an and make it more present in our daily lives?
And how can we encourage Muslim children, young people, and adults to memorize the Book of Allah and perfect their recitation, especially in communities where Muslims live far from predominantly Muslim societies?
This is the purpose behind the International Qur’an Memorization and Tajwid Competition, organized by Ejaza Online. The competition provides an opportunity for Muslims living in Europe and America to compete in the Book of Allah, strengthen their connection with the Qur’an, and encourage one another in memorization and excellence in recitation.
The competition is not merely a contest for rankings or prizes. Rather, it is an invitation to memorize, master, and compete in goodness, while providing an opportunity to discover outstanding Qur’an students and encourage them to continue their journey with the Book of Allah.
Why Is the Competition Being Held?
This year’s (2026-2027), (1448 AH) competition aims to encourage Muslims living in Europe and America to strengthen their connection with the Book of Allah, motivate them to memorize the Qur’an and perfect their recitation, and inspire them to compete in good deeds.
It also seeks to discover outstanding memorizers and reciters, highlight inspiring examples of those who have devoted themselves to the Qur’an, and introduce participants to the programs offered by Ejaza Online, providing opportunities for them to continue their journey of learning and mastery.
Competing in the Qur’an is different from many other forms of competition. A participant does not compete merely to win. Rather, he or she strives to strengthen their relationship with the Book of Allah. Every step taken toward memorization, revision, and mastery is itself a valuable achievement.
Three Levels of Competition
The competition has been designed to accommodate different levels of Qur’an memorization. It consists of three levels, allowing participants to compete according to the amount of the Qur’an they have memorized.
Level One: Memorization of the Entire Qur’an
The first level is for participants who have memorized the entire Qur’an.
Participants at this level are required to observe the rules of Tajwid both theoretically and practically, recite the Qur’an according to at least one Riwayah, and know the meanings of Qur’anic vocabulary.
This level therefore tests more than memorization alone. It brings together memorization, sound recitation, mastery, and knowledge.
Level Two: Memorization of Fifteen Juz’
The second level is for those who have memorized fifteen Juz’ of the Qur’an.
The fifteen Juz’ must be consecutive, beginning from any point in the Qur’an.
Participants must also demonstrate good recitation, proper application of Tajwid, and knowledge of the meanings of Qur’anic vocabulary.
This allows participants who have not yet completed the memorization of the entire Qur’an to enter the competition with what they have memorized, while using the experience as motivation to continue their journey.
Level Three: Memorization of Five Juz’ for Children
The third level is dedicated to children under the age of 15.
Participants must have memorized five consecutive Juz’, beginning from any point in the Qur’an, while demonstrating good recitation and proper Tajwid.
This level is particularly meaningful because it opens the door for young children to compete in the Book of Allah from an early age. It gives them an opportunity to be recognized and encouraged while nurturing in them a love for the Qur’an and a healthy spirit of competing in goodness.
From Registration to the Final Stage: How Does the Competition Work?
The competition takes place over three stages, beginning with registration and preliminary qualification, followed by online interviews, and culminating in the final stage before a committee of senior Qur’anic recitation scholars.
Stage One: Registration and Audio Qualification
Each applicant, male or female, begins by submitting an audio recording of the required verses and completing the competition registration form.
Registration and evaluation of applications is now open, and the submission window closes on 15 Rajab 1448H, corresponding to 24 December 2026.
Qualified scholars will evaluate the audio recordings, while the results and statistics of the preliminary qualification process will be announced on the website on an ongoing basis.
This stage allows applicants to participate in the initial qualification process without the need for in-person attendance, making participation more accessible to contestants living in different countries across Europe and America.
Stage Two: The Top 150 Participants
Scheduled online interview examinations are held for those who pass Stage 1, between 1–10 Sha’ban 1448H (9–18 January 2027).
At this stage, participants move beyond the initial audio submission to a live assessment, allowing the committee to evaluate their level more comprehensively.
Stage Three: The Final Qualification
The third stage brings together the top ten participants from each level.
These participants will compete in a final qualification round before a committee of senior scholars of Qur’anic readings, which will determine the top five positions in each level.
This stage will take place between 21–30 Sha’ban 1448H (29 January – 7 February 2027).
The path to the top positions therefore consists of three stages:
Initial audio qualification → Online interviews → Final qualification before a committee of senior Qur’anic recitation scholars
The names of the winners will then be announced during the month of Ramadan, God willing, with the awards ceremony scheduled for the night of 27 Ramadan 1448 AH (6 March 2027).
A Competition That Combines Memorization, Tajwid, and Mastery
One of the notable features of this competition is that the amount of memorization is not the only criterion.
Across its different levels, participants are expected to demonstrate good recitation and Tajwid. At the first level, participants are additionally required to demonstrate theoretical and practical knowledge of Tajwid, recite according to at least one Riwayah, and understand the meanings of Qur’anic vocabulary.
This reflects an important principle in the journey of learning the Qur’an:
The goal is not simply to memorize the Qur’an, but to memorize it and recite it with mastery.
Memorization is a great beginning, but mastery gives the journey greater strength, stability, and excellence.
Prizes to Encourage Competition in the Book of Allah
The competition offers financial prizes to the top three winners in each level, as an encouragement to compete in the Book of Allah.
Level One Prizes: Memorization of the Entire Qur’an
- First Place: $2,000
- Second Place: $1,750
- Third Place: $1,500
Level Two Prizes: Memorization of Fifteen Juz’
- First Place: $1,250
- Second Place: $1,000
- Third Place: $750
Level Three Prizes: Memorization of Five Juz’ for Children
- First Place: $700
- Second Place: $600
- Third Place: $500
The Prizes Are Not the Ultimate Goal
Despite the importance and motivational value of these prizes, Ejaza Online views them as a symbolic means of recognition and encouragement. The virtue and honor of those who carry the Qur’an are far greater than any prize could express or any award could encompass.
The purpose of these prizes is to encourage the people of the Qur’an to compete in the Book of Allah, honor and celebrate their efforts, and inspire others to embark upon the path of memorization and mastery.
The true winner in this journey is therefore not only the person who achieves first place. It is also everyone who leaves the competition with a stronger connection to the Book of Allah, firmer memorization, better recitation, and greater determination to continue learning and mastering the Qur’an.
Scholarships to Continue the Journey of Learning
The opportunities for recognition do not end with the top three positions.
The competition also provides scholarships at Ejaza Online through Mishkah University for the participants who rank fourth, fifth, and sixth in each category, covering one academic semester with a total of 24 credit hours.
These scholarships represent a valuable continuation of the competition’s mission. After demonstrating excellence in memorization and recitation, students are given an opportunity to continue their studies, deepen their knowledge, and move toward a new stage of mastery.
In this way, the competition does not have to be the end of the journey. It can become the beginning of a new educational journey.
Certificates of Appreciation
The "Ejaza Online" program at Mishkah University awards certificates of appreciation to the top ten students at each level, in recognition and appreciation of their memorization and excellent recitation of the Book of Allah the Almighty.
Honoring the Winners
The competition concludes with the honoring of the winners and the presentation of prizes and certificates of appreciation in person at Mishkah Mosque in Houston, Texas, USA, for those participants who are able to attend.
The ceremony will be held in the presence of the University President, Professor Dr. Salah Al-Sawi, along with a number of scholars and senior Qur’anic reciters, may Allah preserve and honor them.
For winners who are unable to attend, attendance is not required to receive their prizes. Their prizes will instead be sent to them through an appropriate means.
This arrangement takes into consideration the international nature of the competition, which brings together participants from different countries and makes it possible for winners to receive their recognition even if they are unable to travel to the United States.
Who Can Participate?
The competition is open to Muslims residing in any country in Europe or America, both male and female, according to the levels specified for the competition.
There is also an important provision concerning previous winners. Those who won in previous years may not participate in this year’s competition unless they enter a higher category than the one in which they previously won.
This gives previous winners the opportunity to take on a new challenge by advancing to a higher level.
Competition Requirements
To ensure that all stages of the competition proceed smoothly, participants must comply with the specified requirements, including:
- Residing in any country in Europe or America.
- Participants who won in previous years may not participate unless they enter a category higher than the one in which they previously won.
- Adhering to the specified deadlines for submitting recordings, taking examinations, and participating in the final qualification rounds.
- Recording the required audio clips using the natural voice, without any audio effects.
- Submitting the recording in MP3, AAC, or WMA format.
- Combining all required clips into one audio file.
- Following the instructions and requirements specified in the competition registration process.
Why Should You Participate?
A participant may enter the competition thinking primarily about winning, but the impact of the competition can extend far beyond the idea of winning.
The competition gives Qur’an memorizers an opportunity to assess the strength of their memorization and recitation. It motivates them to review what they have memorized and prepare seriously, while providing an educational experience that helps them recognize their strengths and identify areas that require further improvement.
It also gives children and young people an important incentive to continue memorizing the Book of Allah and offers them a positive model of competition. Instead of competing over temporary or superficial achievements, they compete in the Book of Allah.
For those who achieve advanced positions, there is also the opportunity to benefit from the educational scholarships and continue their journey of learning.
The Competition Is Not the End of the Journey
Reaching the competition may be a dream, and winning it may be a great achievement, but the journey with the Qur’an does not end when the results are announced.
Memorization requires continuous revision. Recitation requires mastery. Tajwid requires practice. And every stage of learning can open the door to a new stage.
The competition can therefore be one milestone in a much longer journey with the Qur’an-a journey that begins with memorization and continues through revision and mastery, and may eventually lead to the study of Qur’anic readings and preparation for Ejaza for those who aspire to that goal.
This is one of the principles that Ejaza Online seeks to promote: that the Qur’an should remain present in a Muslim’s life-not only during a competition, but through learning, practice, action, and everyday life.
